An advocacy is an activity where an individual or group aims to influence decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions. This includes activities where a person or group of people maximizes the use of media, public speaking, research, and exit polls. Through the development of technology, advocacy groups are now using social media to facilitate civic engagement and collective action/s.

The local government can conduct an advocacy on municipal elections through commissioning, campaigning, and lobbying. Lobbying is the most often form of advocacy where a direct approach on an issue that affects modern politics is made to legislators.
