1. The news of the Federalist Party's demands at the Hartford Convention arrived in Washington at the same time as news about the end of the war. How did this affect the party's image?

During the Hartford Convention, the New England Federalist made several demands due to their concerns of the War of 1812. They demanded several things such as the secession of New England, removal of the Three-Fifth Compromise as well as their complaints about the Louisiana Purchase and the Embargo of 1807. When news of Andrew Jackson’s victory at the Battle of New Orleans broke out over the Northeast, it discredited the Federalist Party and they lost their power as a political force in American politics.
