I learned this with an easy trick

An inequality, or problem without and equal sign is an EXPRESSION

An equation however has an equal sign Notice the part of the word equation.

It was very simple for me.

Hope this helped

an equation expressed equality ex
2+3=5
algebreaic is unknown
a+3=5

an expression is also known as a phrase that doesn't say anything so ex
a+3 is a phrase or expression

so
x+3=5 is an equation
x+3 is an expression
