When making a poor decision, there would most likely be shame, or mortification afterwards. Some times, its most likely regret in a few cases.

True. Sometimes we can be very stubborn in our views as well as our choices. This is especially true when we do things on our own and it exerted a lot of effort in doing so. It becomes more difficult when there is too much at stake and you close your mind to other alternatives when there was a chance to make the choice. So when things fall apart and you are left all alone, you feel very vulnerable. That is when the criticisms and lectures begin. You have no choice but to accept it because that is what you chose.
