Medications are not the clear cut solution to solving mental disorders. Mental disorders are caused by acquired traits from parents. Though there are a lot of medications available in the market, the only thing they can do is either heighten or lessen the degree of the specific mental disorder.
It is actually one of the many treatments for chemical imbalance in the brain but it does not really apply to all as each mental disorder varies.
