To check that 7/12 is greater than 1/2 we will convert them to decimal.
To convert fraction to decimal we have to divide them.
7/12 = 0.58 = ~0.6 ( rounded to tenth )
1/2 = 0.5
So now we know that 0.6 is greater than 0.5
therefore, 7/12 is BIGGER than 1/2
