It is true that slang is never appropriate to use in social situations. Slang, by dictionary definition, are words not part of a standard language vocabulary and used only by particular group of people and therefore, informal. These are words that only a certain group of people understand and is not applicable to a bigger group especially when the situation entails formalities. This is not appropriate because words are so powerful that it could take away the solemnity of a certain situation or tradition.
