Toni measured the height of her bedroom doorway with a measuring tape. She measured the height as 171 cm. The doorway’s actual height is 182.8 cm.

What is the percent error in Toni’s measurement? Round to the nearest tenth of a percent, if necessary.

-- The height of the doorway is really 182.8 cm.

-- Tamara measured 171 cm.

-- That was not exactly right.
She was off by (182.8 - 171) = 11.8 cm .

-- Compared to the real true number,
the error was
(11.8 / 182.8) = 0.0646 of it .

-- To change a decimal to percent,
move the decimal point two places that way ==> .

0.0646 = 6.46%

Rounded to the nearest tenth of a percent,

6.46% ==> 6.5% .

Her error should really be called -6.5% , because
her measurement was too low.
