Recall in laws of indices,


\begin{gathered} (1)/(x^2)=x^(-2) \\ y^2=(1)/(y^(-2)) \end{gathered}

Thus, If you move a power from the numerator to the denominator OR from the denominator to the numerator you must also change the sign attached to the power to its opposite (that is from + to - or from - to + as the case may be)
