Maria lives 5/6 mile from the mall. On Saturday, she walked from her house to the mall and then back again. At the mall, she walked 1/4 mile while shopping. Maria thinks she walked more than 2 miles on Saturday. Prove or disprove Maria's conjecture./

5/6 + 5/6 + 1/4 = 1 11/12 miles.

In adding fractions, make sure the that denominators are the same, if not multiply the denominator to a number that will result to a common denominator for all.
Corresponding number used to multiply the denominator should also be used to multiply the numerator.

(5/6 * 2/2) + (5/6 *2/2) + (1/4 *3/3) = 10/12 + 10/12 + 3/12 = 23/12
23/12 = 1 11/12 miles.

Maria did not walk more than 2 miles. She only walked 1 11/12 miles.
