It was Chiang Kai-shek

He was the leader of China directly after WWII. The answer is honestly quite confusing, because there was a transfer of power between Mao Zedong and Chiang. They met multiple times discussing leadership within China. Mao Zedong ended up founding the Peoples republic of China. Careful, both answers might be deemed correct, or one or the other.

Mao Zedong was the leader of China immediately after World War II. He was the Chinese Communist Leader that declared the creation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). He was responsible for ending the civil war between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Nationalist Party or Kuomintang (KMT). But it was short-lived and was preceded by an on-off conflict between them since the 1920s. PRC successfully completed the long process of governmental upheaval in China through the Chines Revolution of 1911.
