The reason that Thomas Paine thinks the colonies stand a good chance against the British is that the colonies can create a great navy out of its own resources.

Thomas Paine also believes that the youth of the colonies is an advantage of the colonies over Britain because the colonies as a young nation has less to lose than Britain.
