What's 7/12 minus 3/12 simplified? BTW ONLY IN 4TH GRADE MAKE IT CLEAR

When subtracted it is 4/12. You can subtract both as they are because they both have a Common Denominator; it is 12. There is 1 more step that you have to do after subtracting. The fraction needs to be reduced. 4 and 12 are similar. You can divide the 4 into 12. Divide 4 into 4 (the numerator is 4) and divide 4 into 12 ( the denominator is 12). The answer is

7/12 - 3/12 = 1/3
Simplify each fraction if possible.
Same denominator? YES!
7 - 3 = 4
Since they have the same denominator, you just subtract the numerators.
Then simplify 4/12
4/4= 1 12/4= 3
Answer: 1/3
