2 and 1/4 as an improper fraction is 9/4.

A fraction is called improper fraction when the numerator is equal to or larger than the denominator. A proper fraction is when the numerator is less than the denominator.

2 1/4 became an improper fraction of 9/4 through the following steps.
2 * 4 = 8 *multiply the whole number to the denominator
8 + 1 = 9 *add the numerator to the product, sum is the new numerator
⇒ 9/4 *don't forget to put the denominator,for it to become an improper fraction.
