Final answer:

To find the amount of salt needed when a recipe is doubled, multiply the original amount of salt by 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

When you are given a recipe that includes the amount of salt as a fraction, you can use that information to find the amount of salt needed when the recipe is doubled. Let's say the original recipe calls for 1/2 teaspoon of salt. To find the amount of salt needed when the recipe is doubled:

  1. Multiply the original amount of salt by 2 to account for doubling the recipe. In this case, 1/2 teaspoon * 2 = 1 teaspoon.
  2. Therefore, when the recipe is doubled, you would need 1 teaspoon of salt.

I am just making up and example but if a recipe asked for a 3/5 tablespoon, and you needed to double it, you would have to multiply
1. (3/5)*(2/1)
(it's 2/1 because that signifies a whole number.)
2. Multiply straight across which would be (3*2) over (5*1)
3. 3*2= 6, and 5*1= 5 so you get 6/5. which is like 1 & 1/5 tablespoons
