The expression for the mid-segment of the trapezium is,

$\begin{gathered} WZ=(UV+ST)/(2) \\ (7x+8)=((8x-1)+(10x+5))/(2) \\ 14x+16=18x+4 \\ -4x=-12 \\ x=3 \end{gathered}$
