The different plants that replace earlier varieties of plants in the wake of a brush fire is an example of plant succession. The timescale when this occurs usually takes decades (during a case of a wildfire, lava flow, and landslide) or millions of years after a mass extinction.
It is the one of the first advanced theories in ecology; where species begin anew with a few pioneering plants and animals that develop through increasing complexities. Then it grows into a stable and self-perpetuating community/ecosystem again.
