5/6
= (5*4) / (6*4)
= 20/24

3/8
= (3*3) / (8*3)
= 9/24

Because 20/24 > 9/24, 5/6 is greater than 3/8~

Convert both of them into a decimal, and the decimal closest to a a whole number is the greater one.
