Stress on rocks occurs when a force exerts a force in some area forming a tension, which causes a change in the shape, size and volume of a rock. There are three types of deformation stage of a rock: elastic, ductile and fracture.

Elastic deformation occurs when stress can be reversible, in ductile deformation is irreversible and in fracture the material breaks.
