It is true that primary care physicians are responsible for diagnosis and treatment. These general practitioners (GP) are the ones you go to first to get a check up, and if they deem that your problem is far more severe than they can help you, they will send you to a secondary care physician. Those types of physicians are specialists, such as cardiologists, urologists, even dentists, etc.
