Final answer:

The function of a cell primarily depends on its structure, the plasma membrane, and other components that allow it to interact with its environment and perform necessary functions. The cell shape, size, and the conformation of proteins within it are also critical to how a cell functions.

Step-by-step explanation:

The function of a cell depends primarily on its structure and the components within it. Cells are the fundamental unit of life and have various functions such as obtaining energy, growth, division, and response to the environment. For example, plant cells that contribute to water transport and structural integrity often perform their most significant roles after programmed cell death.

Whereas, cells that make up tissues and organs must be able to exchange substances with their environment, such as nutrients and waste, which is facilitated by the cell's plasma membrane. This membrane is not only a barrier but also allows for flexibility, interaction, and recognition among cells.

Moreover, cell shape and size are often indicative of the cell's function, with some cells changing shape to manoeuvre through small spaces like capillaries.

Protein conformation, which plays a critical role in almost all cellular functions, depends on the physical and chemical properties of amino acids. Lastly, for cells to function correctly, they require appropriate environmental conditions, which can include proper temperature, pH, and concentration of chemicals.

Organelles which are very important in giving nutrients. During cellular respiration, the food molecules such as glucose, are oxidized to carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) and trapped in ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) form for further us of cell’s activities. ATP’s are formed at mitochondria – the cell’s powerhouse. This type of organelle takes and breaks nutrients absorbed by the cell and creates energy afterward. The energy from ATP is then used by the body in kinetic activities like running & walking or involuntary activities like breathing, blood circulation, stimulus-responding, etc.
