American Indian resistance in Ohio ended with the death of Tecumseh, a Shawnee Indian who fought the Americans and had been successful in Kentucky as well as territories in Indiana. Despite his triumphs, his campaign failed when his confederacy fell apart. To make matters worse, his forces were wiped out in the Battle of Tippercanoe by an American Army led by Henry Harrison. Tecumseh was killed in the Battle of the Thames in the War of 1812. With his death, the other Indians gave up their territories and by 1843, the last remaining Indians had given up their lands and left Ohio.
