It could be obsession. As obsession is defined as the reoccurring mental thought or idea of something. This obsession has caught you up or to overthink. For instance in a situation that has caught you up, you engross yourself with it. Overthinking like obsession is a mental act or a cognitive resonance which is still different from behavior or compulsion, as the word for it.
