Why did the industrial revolution cause people to move from farms to cities?

One of the most important effects of the industrial revolution was the migration of large number of people from farms to cities, in search for new and better opportunities for living. Industrial revolution led to creation of huge factories, and creation of huge factories led to massive urbanisation and forming of big cities. Living in the big city and working in a factory promised better life standard. In 1800 only 3% of worlds population lived in the cities, compared to 50% today, at the beginning of the 21st century.

Job opportunities--factories pulled farm hands no longer needed to the cities for work.

New farming technology made farming easier and required fewer workers. The former field hands moved into the cities to fill the factory jobs which required little to no skill and would provide constant work. Factories were in high demand of workers and the cities offered new conveniences not found in the rural areas. The cities attracted many single and young workers as opposed to families.
