The main way in which the Monroe Doctrine helped represent a shift in the ideals of the Jeffersonian democracy during the period 1800-1824 was that it insinuated that the United States would treat any further European actions in the Americas as a threat, and intervene militarily. This was highly contrast from the isolationist foreign policy of the Jefferson era.
