If you ever accidentally brushed your arm against a light bulb
that's been on for a while, then you know that some of the energy
that a light bulb uses is converted into heat.

In addition to the light energy much of this electrical energy is also converted to heat energy. The light energy is utilized and the heat energy gets lost. Whenever electric energy is used to light a bulb, the maximum amount of electric energy gets lost by getting converted to heat energy. Only the part that converts the electric energy to light energy gets utilized. This is the reason we find that the light bulbs or instruments that give out light on passing electrical energy gets heated up as well.
