Why did the northerners want southerners to pay a tax on any goods bought from Europe? They wanted the southern economy to fail. Everything purchased from Europe meant less money for the northern states.

Why did the northerners want southerners to pay a tax on any goods bought from Europe?

They wanted the southern economy to fail.
Everything purchased from Europe meant less money for the northern states.
They wanted to end slavery.
After the American Revolution, the northerners did not want to deal with Europe in any way.
