The major goals of the United Nations in 1945 were to prevent war (B), to provide a basis for international law (C) and to promote human rights (A). Although the latter two were more or less consequences of achieving the firs one.

The correct answers are A, B and C. The major goals of the United Nations in 1945 were to promote human rights, to prevent war and to provide a basis for international law.

The United Nations (UN) is the largest existing international organization. It was created to maintain international peace and security, foster friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation to solve global problems and serve as a center that harmonizes the actions of nations.

In 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed, one of the most outstanding achievements of the UN.

The founders of the UN expressed hope that this new organization would serve to prevent new wars. These desires have not come true in many cases. From 1947 to 1991, the division of the world into hostile areas during the Cold War made this goal very difficult, due to the veto system in the Security Council.
