The Mongol invasion of both regions obviously had different effects on them because Russia was a very distant and unhospitable place for the Mongols to live in, considering it was very far away from the Mongol capital. Due to this, they had less capability of enforcing their rule. However, if the people stepped out of line, the punishment were drastic and severe. Although this might be said for China as well, they were not such on a massive scale. Furthermore, China was closer to the Mongolian capital and the general Mongolian force at the time.
