A solution of known concentration is added to a solution of an unknown concentration until an equivalence point or an endpoint is reached.

An endpoint is when the color of the reaction changes, while the equivalence point is when the amount of moles in each solution equal each other, and both can be used as indicators as to when the titration should end.
