In an equation always remember this format. MDAS (multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction)

-6(x+2)-4 = 0
-6x + (-6)(2) - 4 = 0 *distributive multiplication property
-6x -12 - 4 = 0
-6x -16 = 0 * group like numbers.
-6x = 16
-6x / -6 = 16/-6
x= -2 2/3 or -2.67
