The major difference between lactic acid and alcohol fermentation is that alcohol fermentation releases carbon dioxide, while lactic acid fermentation does not. The correct option in regards to all the options given in the question is the first option. During the process of alcohol fermentation, the pyruvate molecules are broken down to form carbon dioxide and ethyl alcohol. On the other hand during lactic acid fermentation process, the product that is formed is lactic acid only and no carbon dioxide is released. The major difference between the processes lies in this fact.
