Where did portugal and spain claim land in the western hemisphere

Between the two of them: they claimed land in the WHOLE western Hemisphere.

Specifically, in 1494 they split all the undiscovered lands on the whole planet among themselves and with the approval of the pope - this is known as the Treaty of Tordesillas. They did this along a meridian 370 leagues from the Cape Verde: this means that the land corresponding to western Brazil ( and whole of Africa) would belong to Portugal and the rest of America to Spain.
