A restaurant has two pastry ovens. When both ovens are used, it takes about 3 hours to bake the bread needed for one day. When only the large oven is used, it takes about 4 hours to bake the bread for one day. About how long would it take to bake the bread for one day if only the small oven were used? Complete the explanation.

Answer:

Explanation:

Since the large oven can back 1 day's worth of bread in 4 hours, 3/4 of 1 day's worth of bread can be baked in the large oven in 3 hours.

Let s be the amount of time it takes the small oven to bake 1 day's worth of bread. 1/s equals the amount of bread cooked in one hour. Thus in 3 hours, 3/s + 3/4 = 1 day's worth of bread.

3/s = 1/4 and by proportionality we find that s = 12 hours.

it would take at least 5 hours because since both ovens take 3 hours to make it then a large oven would take 4 and the small oven would take 5 hours since its smaller it takes longer
