you would take 164 and add 22 to get 186 then subtract 90 to get $96 which is what she still owes

Firstly, the best thing to do is add together the purchases.
164+22= 186
As she's then paid some of this off, you then need to subtract this amount
186-90= 96
Therefore, the current balance on Jennifer's credit card is
$96
