Berber Arabs was the one who originally took control of Zaragoza, Spain. The city was taken over in 714. But the date is really December 19, 1118.

714 was the year when the Muslim army, led by Tariq, occupied the city and renamed it Saraqusta, it was an advance military post for the war versus northern Christians, who found shelter on the Pyrenees. Its remoteness to the emirate capital and its defensive bulwark gave Saraqusta some political autonomy.
