to get 3/10 of 30:
1) split 30 into ten equal pieces, 30 divided by 10 is 3, each of the ten pieces is worth 3
2) you are finding 3/10 of 30, that means 3 out of 10 pieces. Since each piece is worth 3, three pieces, 3x3=9
3) 3/10 of 30 is 9.
