Lee had a total of 40 e-mails on Monday. Twelve of the e-mails were from her friend Cara. What percent of the e-mails were from Cara?

To find the percentage we divide the number of emails from Cara by the total number of emails.

12/40=.3

.3=30%

30% of the emails were from Cara

❅ We can look at this question as what is 12% of 40.
❅ Lets lookat it like this: Y is 12% of 40
❅ We are going to do y=12%*40

❅ Now convert the answer you get into a decimal.
❅ 12%/100 = 0.12
❅ Now once again, solve: 0.12 * 40
❅ and then you get 4.8
❅4.8 is 12% of 40.
Now to get the number of percent
Divide: 12/40=.3

And you get: .3=30%
So Carla was 30% of her emails.
And 4.8 is 12% of 40.
