Explanation:

identify the first set of like terms that you're going to combine. i'm going to start with the x terms. you don't have to start with those, but that's just how i'm going to do it.

14x - 4 - 2x - 3

combine the first set of like terms.

14x - 2x

after subtracting 2x, you're left with 12x.

identify the remaining like terms from the original expression.

14x - 4 - 2x - 3

combine the remaining like terms.

-4 - 3 aka -4 + -3

after subtracting 3 from -4, you're left with -7.
