Change to a common denominator.
1 x8 8
5 x8 40
1 x5 5
8 x5 40
1/2 of 40 is 20. (20/40)
So when you add 8+5+20=33. So the fraction of vegetables in Emma's garden is 33/40
Flowers or peas- 40 (total)-33(vegetable)= 7. (7/40) So there are more flowers (7/40) than peas. (5/40)
Hope it helps
