D. X = 8 , Y = 6

3x - 14 = x + 2
3x - x = 2 + 14
2x = 16
2x / 2 = 16/2
x = 8

To check: 3x - 14 = x + 2 ; 3(8) - 14 = 8 + 2 ; 24 - 14 = 10 ; 10 = 10

4y - 7 = y + 11
4y - y = 11 + 7
3y = 18
3y / 3 = 18 / 3
y = 6

To check: 4y - 7 = y + 11 ; 4(6) - 7 = 6 + 11 ; 24 - 7 = 17 ; 17 = 17
