Blood pressure is the measure of force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls. High blood pressure which is also called hypertension refers to a blood pressure that is abnormally high.

There are many factors that contribute to hypertension. These include:

1. Smoking

2. Being overweight or obese

3. Too much salt in diet

4. Too much alcohol consumption

5. Stress

6. Lack of physical activity

7. Older age

8. Family history of high blood pressure.

9. Sleep apnea

10. Family history of high blood pressure

11. Adrenal and thyroid disorders.
