50 is 40% of what number? And we need to do the proportions/ example 50/100 etc. and please explain.. :)

X = of
100 = 100

50 X 100 = 5,000
40 X x = 40x

40x / 40 = x
5,000 / 40 = 125

SO... x = 125

50 × 100 = 40 × X

5000 = 40X

5000/40 = 40X/40

125 = X
