8 + 6 + 9 + 12 + 4x / 5 = x Original Problem.
25 + 4x / 5 = x Addition.
25 + 4x = 5x Multiply each side by 5.
25 = x Subtract 4x from each side.
x = 25 Switch equation around.

Answer: x = 25

Given that average is x. So we replace x for average

5x= 8+6+9+12+4x

Subtract 4x from both sides


x= 8+6+9+12


x=35

So the value of x is 35
