Many people with eating disorders do not seek help because they deny there is a problem as in the case of anorexia nervosa. They also are embarrased and ashamed of their behaviors and fear of being stigmatized as in the case of bulimia. However, people with eating disorders do not find comfort in food.

People with binge eating disorder usually feels out of control in terms of food intake. They eat and eat and eat without control. Initially, food gives them a sense of calm and comforts them from feeling upset. However, due to having a binge eating disorder, bingeing on the food will gradually cause anxiety, guilt and distress to the person.
