The custom of having and decorating Christmas trees originated from Riga, Latvia 1510.

It was said that decorated trees associated with Christmas Day were placed in guildhalls and decorated with sweets to be enjoyed by children and apprentices. Sweets like apples, nuts, dates, and pretzels.

The Brotherhood of Blackheads erected a tree for the holidays in their guild houses in Riga, Latvia . On the last night of the celebration leading up to the holidays, said tree is transferred to the Towhn Hall Square where members of the brotherhood danced around it. This event happened in 1441, 1442, 1510, and 1514.
