⇒8x-5x=18-9
⇒3x=9
⇒x=9/3
⇒x=3

8x + 9 = 5x + 18

Subtract 9 from each side:

8x = 5x + 9

Subtract 5x from each side:

3x = 9

Divide each side by 3 :

x = 3
