Suppose that y is directly proportional to x. Find the constant of proportionality k if y = 148.8 when x = 16. (Write your answer as a decimal.) Using the k from above write the variation equation in terms of x. y = Using the k from above find y given that x = 29. y = If needed, round answer to 3 decimal places. Solution

For the frist case we know the following formula:

y= kx

Since y is proportional to x

Then since we know that y= 148.8 and x= 16 we can solve for k and we got:

k=(148.8)/(16)=9.3

For the second part we just need to replace x= 29 and we got:

y=9.3\cdot29=269.7
