the answer is three because if you divide .25(1/4) from .75(6/8) you get three.

As given

There\ are\ (6)/(8)\ of\ cake\ left\ over\ after\ a\ birthday\ party .

Than the equation become in the form

(x*1)/(4) = (6)/(8)

Solving

x = (6* 4)/(8)

x =(6)/(2)

x = 3

Therefore one fourth pieces are 3 made out of the leftover cake .

Hence proved
