Al Qaeda has its origin in the conflict known as the Cold War, in Afghanistan dominated by the Soviet Union where one of the conflicts that had the greatest implications for the global geopolitical board of the 21st century was carried out.
In 1979, Muslim Guerrillas who had the logistical support of Pakistan and were fiananced by the Persian Gulf States and Saudi Arabia gathered in Afghanistan to carry out an anti soviet jihad that enden with the withdrawal of the Soviet Army in the year 1992.
Returning to the armed conflict, one of the organizations that played a central role during the anti soviet jihad was the Maktab al-Khidamat, led by the cleric Abdullah Azzam and financed by the saudi Ossama Bin Laden.
This organization focused on recruiting young people from different countries from armed organizations that tried to overthrow the goverments of their countries of origin. In this way, guerrillas went to Afghanistan to defend the Islamic community that was being attacked by the Soviet Union.
As a result of the different experiences of military combat techniques and political religious control derived from the anti soviet campaign in Afghanistan, the numer of jihadist organizations that fought in the name of Jihad and Al Qaeda by means of armed actions increased the lenght and width of the planet.
